In short:

Strict bans on fishing will take effect from this month as authorities work to recover WA's at-risk demersal fish stocks, including species like dhufish and pink snapper.

The bans impact commercial and recreational fishers and will take place along a 900km stretch of coastline from Kalbarri to Augusta and including Perth.

Trawling for demersal fish, where a large net is dragged through the water to catch them, will also be banned in the Pilbara.
