Man charged with murder after Far North Queensland stabbing

A 63-year-old man has been charged with murder following the stabbing death of another man police say was known to him in Far North Queensland.
Emergency services said they were called to Yara Street in Bayview Heights, a suburb of Cairns, at about 3am on Tuesday.
Detective Acting Inspector Amanda Winterburn said on arrival, police found a 69-year-old man with stab wounds, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Queensland Ambulance Services said multiple paramedic units responded to a "reported wounding incident" at a private address.
It said a man with life-threatening injuries died and the other man at the scene had a "minor face laceration" and, according to police, injuries to his hands.

The 63-year-old Bayview Heights man was taken into custody at the scene, and was later charged with one count of murder (domestic violence).
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Acting Inspector Winterburn said it was being treated as a domestic violence incident.
"Investigations indicate that the two men are known to each other,"she said.
"They are both Cairns locals and both residing at the Yara Street property."
"Examinations of the scene are ongoing — it is quite a complex scene."

Acting Inspector Winterburn said a knife had been removed from the scene.
While there was no ongoing threat to the community, she urged anyone with information to contact police.
She said police were providing support to the family during this "difficult time".
