In short:

A tranche of 100,000 parliamentary communications was handed to HWL Ebsworth in the same year it was the victim of a Russia-linked hack.

The Department of Parliamentary Services has now conceded a contractor for the firm did not have clearance to receive the communications, which it handed back last week.

What's next?

The department is expected to face further questioning at a Senate estimates hearing.
