In short:

Tahira Shaheen was an unsupervised learner driver when she struck a 12-year-old girl in Willetton, driving off without helping the seriously injured girl.

The Perth District Court heard Shaheen did not report the incident to police because she "panicked" and was "embarrassed".

What's next?

Shaheen must serve at least eight months of her 16-month jail sentence before being eligible for parole.
