Video appears to show March for Australia organiser coordinating with Neo-Nazi

A previously unreported video has emerged, appearing to show a key March for Australia organiser coordinating with a Neo-Nazi at the first rally in Sydney in August.

The video shows national organiser Bec Walker, who also goes by Bec Freedom online, appearing to confer with a prominent member of Neo-Nazi group National Socialist Network (NSN) about who should hold the rally's main banner.

It runs counter to Ms Walker's claims that she had no control over where people, including NSN members, were positioned during the march.

The video is available online, but ABC NEWS Verify has obtained a copy of the original.

Ahead of the next rally to be held this Sunday, ABC NEWS Verify has also uncovered the white nationalist leanings of other newly announced organisers online.

While the march was initially promoted as a movement against "mass immigration", Ms Walker has since celebrated that a federal politician has begun mentioning the concept of "remigration" — a term associated with the far right that calls for the deportation of non-European immigrants to their country of origin.

Black or yellow up front?

As members of the NSN assembled and waited for the Sydney march to begin, a woman's voice was heard off camera.

"Joel," she shouted.

NSN member Joel Davis turned his head and approached the voice's source: March for Australia national organiser Bec Walker.

As the frame of the video widened, the two had a discussion. Two men in black shirts — wearing NSN insignia — are seen holding a banner.

Immediately following the discussion, Mr Davis turned and addressed those in the vicinity of the sign.

"Guys in the yellow hold the banner," he said.

Two men in yellow vests are then found to take the banner off the NSN members.

One of these men is Oscar Tuckfield, who in 2018 was revealed to be part of a far-right plot to influence the Young Nationals from the inside.

Mr Tuckfield then handed the banner to another man in a yellow vest, before one of the NSN members who was previously holding the banner whispered in the ears of both of the yellow-vested marshals.

Mr Tuckfield did not respond to questions from ABC NEWS Verify about whether he was taking orders from Mr Davis or whether he was part of his organisation.

The exchange between Mr Davis and Ms Walker lasted less than 20 seconds and gives some insight into how she and the NSN were consciously managing the optics of the group's involvement on the day.

Ms Walker told ABC NEWS Verify she did not coordinate with the NSN "except when asking Joel Davis to give [the banner] to my marshals".

"I cannot physically control where anyone stands. What I can control is who holds my banner that I paid for," she said.

When asked about claims about NSN members posing as marshals on the day of the march, as reported in The Age newspaper, and whether she was aware of this at the time, she said:

"No, I was not aware of this at the time, but they were not there as NSN and they were great as marshals, ensuring the day ran smoothly and safely."

Ms Walker has since expressed white nationalist and antisemitic opinions online.

She has been heard on various live streams falsely suggesting that people of European descent are being bred out and spouting antisemitic views.

When asked by ABC NEWS Verify whether her comments were antisemitic, Ms Walker said it was "not antisemitic to speak on facts".

Ms Walker has also shared posts baselessly suggesting that the violence at Camp Sovereignty in Melbourne had been provoked by left-wing activists.

She told ABC NEWS Verify she did not condone any kind of violence, but doubled down on her claim of left-wing provocations.

"Had the police intervened the way they should have by making arrests and removing agitators, violence could have been avoided," she said.

For its part, the NSN has indicated it will not attend Sunday's protest.

Instead, the group claimed that Australia Day would be "the next time the National Socialist Network will be working with March for Australia".

When asked whether Ms Walker would work with the NSN on an Australia Day event, she said she was yet to make plans for the day.

New white nationalist connections

ABC NEWS Verify has identified two individuals involved in promoting and organising the next March for Australia rally who have espoused white nationalist views.

Matt Trihey, from the National Workers Alliance, a self-described movement "dedicated to the preservation of Western Culture and Identity", was announced as the Melbourne organiser of the upcoming march.

Mr Trihey has claimed people with "European blood" face an "existential threat" from immigration.

His organisation previously hosted a meeting where a speaker allegedly performed a Nazi salute, eliciting cheers from the crowd, which included NSN members.

At the time, Mr Trihey told the ABC that he had no connection with the NSN and: "I am a free speech advocate and have no control over who purchases online tickets to my events."

In a recent live stream, he claimed that the European "bloodline" was at risk.

He also said he shared views with the United Kingdom's far-right figure, Mark Collett.

In response to questions from ABC NEWS Verify, Mr Trihey said he had "never been a member of the NSN, or any other Neo-Nazi organisation".

Another newly enlisted organiser for March for Australia is alternative media influencer Laurence McIntyre, who goes by the name "Whats_Newsss" online.

Mr McIntyre was announced in late September as the "official promoter and social media PR" representative for March for Australia.

Mr McIntyre has shared NSN material in the past.

He created media headlines earlier in the year when he disrupted a Labor election campaign press conference featuring Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

In a live stream on X in the lead-up to the initial March for Australia, Mr McIntyre likened "mass immigration" to "ethnic cleansing".

He stood by and repeated the claim when contacted by ABC NEWS Verify.

In the live stream, Mr McIntyre described the event as a chance to influence the national discourse around immigration.

"This is one opportunity we have to really just smash through that Overton window," he said.

Shifting the Overton window

The "Overton window" refers to the range of political ideas considered acceptable or mainstream by the public.

Groups on both the left and right sometimes attempt to shift the window by promoting more extreme views, with the aim of making their broader agenda seem more normal or acceptable.

Following the first event, where Neo-Nazis in Sydney marched at the front, and where they were given speaking spots in Sydney and Melbourne, Ms Walker celebrated after remigration was mentioned by a federal politician.

"I never thought I would … see the day that a politician uses the term remigration … like that's mind-blowing to me and March for Australia has done this," Ms Walker said about One Nation's Malcolm Roberts's use of the term.

There has been some confusion over whether March for Australia supports the concept.

ABC NEWS Verify reported before the first march that the event's website previously contained a reference to the concept, which was quietly removed.

Organisers who were contacted for comment did not answer questions at the time about whether March for Australia supported remigration.

Ahead of the second rally, ABC NEWS Verify asked Ms Walker why the reference was removed.

"It was removed when two separate groups came together to work on March For Australia together," she said.

"We had slightly different beliefs on what March For Australia was about, so the owner of the website removed it."

She did not respond to further questions about whether she personally, or March for Australia, supported remigration.

Kaz Ross, an independent researcher of extremism and conspiracy theories, told ABC NEWS Verify that the existence of a movement like March for Australia was in itself "proof of the Overton window shifting to the right".

"There's been a very concerted and coordinated effort by far-right commentators in social media spaces to push the discourse on immigration," Dr Ross said. 

"What March for Australia is doing is normalising this discussion about 'send them back', 'deport remigration' and these are all far-right slogans," which Dr Ross said helped further the goals of groups like the NSN.
