Governor-General Sam Mostyn travelled to Dr Yunupiŋu's home community in north-east Arnhem Land to present the Companion of the Order of Australia award.

Dr Yunupiŋu's daughter Binmila Yunupiŋu accepted the award on her father's behalf, saying his legacy will "burn on forever".
